43rd Ward Electronics Collection
August 21, 2010
When: Saturday, August 21, 8 a.m. - Noon
Location: Leave unwanted electronics near the curb in front of your residence before 8 a.m.
Alderman Vi Daley will host a ward-wide electronics collection. All residents in the 43rd Ward can leave their unwanted electronics
near the curb in front of their residence before 8 a.m. Trucks will be
sweeping the neighborhood picking up equipment from 8 a.m. - 12 p.m. or until
they complete a thorough sweep.
PC Rebuilders & Recyclers (PCRR) keeps computers out of the
landfills and puts them into the hands of needy school children through
its Computers for Schools program.
Electronics that will be accepted include: TVs, DVD players, VCRs,
PDAs, MP3 players, Video Equipment, Mobile Phones and, of course,
Computers.
The primary goal is to reuse as much of the equipment as
possible. If a piece of equipment is not suitable for reuse they will
try to harvest parts for reuse or finally they will send the equipment
off for material recovery. They have adopted the Responsible Recycling
(R2) best management practices that are being promoted by the U.S. EPA
as their standard for processing materials.
Residents who don't want to leave their equipment near the curb can
drop it off on Kingsbury at Cortland (just west of Clybourn) between
8 a.m. - 12 p.m.
