Accepting Nominees for Cook County's "Unsung Heroines"
February 6, 2012

In recognition of Women's History Month, the Cook County Commission on Women's Issues will be sponsoring a breakfast on March 15, 2012 at which 17 women will be recognized as the County's "Unsung Heroines."  A heroine will be selected from each of the seventeen Cook County districts to ensure that women from each area of the County are recognized for their extraordinary contributions to their communities. Nominees must be a resident of the County Board District from which they are nominated.  They should be women who, either in a professional or a volunteer capacity, have made significant contributions to the well-being of their community for which they have not received widespread recognition.  Elected officials are not eligible for consideration.  

If you know someone in our community who should be nominated for this honor, please complete and submit the following nomination form by February 6, 2012 - 5:00 PM.

Argyle Street Chinese New Year Parade
January 28, 2012

Andersonville's First Ever Monthly Winter Market

Andersonville's First Ever Monthly Winter Market will now take place every third Sunday until April 2012 at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church. The market will feature many of your favorite vendors from the Andersonville Farmers Market. Some of your favorites include: delicious baked goods & breads, sustainably-raised meats, cheese & eggs, produce (fall & spring markets) and other local treats. St. Lucia Festival of the Lights

The festival of St. Lucia is a Sicilian tradition adopted by the Swedes, a celebration of lights prevailing
over the darkest time of the year. Join us at the Swedish American Museum for the annual candlelit, carol-filled procession down Clark Street.
Afterwards, the Museum hosts more singing, family entertainment and treats. The
procession is free; admission to the museum is $1 or a canned food item to
benefit the homeless. There will also be a special St. Lucia service at nearby Ebenezer Lutheran Church starting at 7:00 PM.
